Leading a Spiritual Life

It’s too easy to get caught up in this material world.

You wake up in the morning and you are still tired; you yell at your husband, your kids, and then rush to work; more stress, more emotional upheaval; when does it end?  There comes a point when you start to ask yourself:
Who am I? What am I doing here? How can I make my life more meaningful?

These are questions that you, like many people, have. And unfortunately, most people never see a clear path.
You spend your time waiting, wanting, thinking: “I’ll be happy when…” “I’ll find the meaning to my life when I…” and unfortunately that future event, the boyfriend, husband, baby, money doesn’t ever “really” fulfill that need; the soul’s need to find peace, tranquility, hope and happiness.

The problem here is that you’re always looking over the horizon, thinking that if some future event happens you’ll be complete. The truth is:

This will never happen.

Not until you learn to harmonize your spiritual being with your physical one.

The Three Levels of Life

Everyone has three levels of life; the physical life, that is the body we live in; then there is the mental life, that of our mind which gives us the ability to reflect, think and reason; but then there is also the spiritual life which is not to be confused with a religious life.

What is a Spiritual Life?

At its most basic essence, those that speak of spirituality don’t define it by a specific religion, although there certainly are religious people who are spiritual. Actually spirituality is not really about beliefs, church or specific rules that govern a faith. Spirituality has to do with the meaning of life. It is the natural order of things.

Essentially our spirit is the building blocks of all our other lives because it understands and knows the source, that which we call God, the eternal truth or the eternal life. At any rate, people who are spiritual, no matter what their religion, have a few traits in common:
  • They believe there is some sort of divine reality (not necessarily of a specific religious descent). But a divinity which creates the physical and mental person.
  • The human soul has a natural harmony and longing with this Divine Reality.
  • A spiritual person usually has a goal that of finding harmony with spirit, body and mind.
Are You Paying Attention to Your Spiritual Self?

Religions teach us that the spirit only lives after the death of the human body, and that there is no spiritual need or person until that time. Based on research, ancient meditative techniques and other spiritual guides, much of society now believes that these religious beliefs are not wholly true.

In fact, we do have spiritual side, and we can escape those negative emotions that weigh us down; anxiety, anger, depression, frustration, loneliness and anger. A spiritual person is one who feels at peace, who feels hope and beauty even in the direst circumstances. The good news is you can learn to be spiritual.

The Process

By implementing these activities into your daily life you can find that inner peace, and it is this inner spirituality that will diminish those negative emotional feelings.

Meditation

There are different types of meditation, but they all have a positive effect on the person. For instance, the Hindus use yoga and the chanting of mantras to get in touch with their spirit. For the Christians and the Muslims this comes through prayer. The Ayurvedics simply believe allowing the mind to wander while using a special mantra works. For those who find spirituality naturally, this can even come through painting, contemplation or through music.

At any rate whatever meditative technique you learn or take up, it’s through the practice of regular meditation that you get in touch with your spiritual side and become a healthier more balanced person. In fact, most meditation experts believe that meditative practices prevent many illnesses, help you achieve inner peace and joy.

Finding Balance

Your spiritual side must be balanced, but finding that balance is an activity that your mind automatically embraces through frequent meditation. It is here that you learn to release resentment, anger, guilt and obsession. You let go of negative emotions and attain a deeper connection with your spirit. As you acquire the skills to connect with your spirit you get better at pushing away the negative emotions and thoughts that enter your mind.

Living a Stress-free Life

People who learn to connect with their spirit, become increasingly more spiritual and are able to ward off stress and fatigue. They become content with their life and attract positive things and outcomes to it.  However, this ability to be positive requires a daily filtering of emotions and thought, a process that you complete through meditation.

Measurable Benefits

According to many medical studies, people who practice spirituality have a decreased metabolic rate and a lower heart rate, which means they are healthier, less prone to cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Spiritual practices also help prevent allergies, migraines and enjoy an improved memory.  And because you are emotionally stable you also become more productive in your chosen field.
